Other Benefits of Staying at KSP: In addition to progressing your own work in the solitude of your self-contained Jarrah cabin, guests also have access to an incredibly active community of writers at the nearby KSP Writers' Centre building. Consider dropping into a writing group to socialise and receive feedback on your work-in-progress. You can also book a mentorship session with a professional local writer to glean personalised advice and critique on a larger manuscript. Check our calendar for any events or workshops. Enjoy the onsite heritage gardens - if you see Fern, our gardener, ask her for a quick free tour! - do some bird-spotting or take a walk along one of the nearby Shire of Mundaring Railways Reserve Heritage Trails. Visit a local winery or restaurant in Darlington or the Swan Valley - we have our favourites listed in the KSP cabin guidebook (emailed to you upon booking).

To check availability, rates and to make a booking please enter your desired dates below, in the box beneath the arrow (or, if you are viewing on a mobile device, at the top of the page).

* Please note that to book a retreat with less than seven days notice, you must email the KSP office with your desired dates and a phone number for staff to get back to you.

*Please note that there are many native species residing at KSP as well, including a colony of 'friendly' Bees situated in a tree between Phillips and Clarke cabins. We have never had a stinging incident, however if you have any concerns or a severe bee allergy, please consider booking the Aldridge Cabin furthest away from the nest, alternatively please contact our staff members for more information.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Dianne Wolfer, 2014 WA Premier’s Award-winning author of the CBCA Honour book ‘Lighthouse Boy’ (plotted at KSP)

A lovely space for writing. I love the big window and wide writing desk—a perfect workspace.

Retreat Details

The KSP Writers’ Centre features three private self-contained cottage retreats available exclusively for writers to hire.

Set against the backdrop of Perth’s Darling Scarp, these retreats give you the opportunity to shut yourself away in a beautiful atmosphere to write, write, write.

These comfortable cottages built in 2007 boast modern facilities and old-fashioned charm. Designed in the style of celebrated Australian novelist Katharine Susannah Prichard’s original 1930s studio, lovingly built for her by her husband, the cottages are set amongst wild sprawling gardens with city skyline glimpses.

When you need a break from the page, all you need to do is walk outside and emerse yourself in the beautiful KSP gardens. Take your breakfast and morning coffee onto the main house Jarrah verandah and admire the bushland views, or sit in one of our many outdoor nooks and have a chat with the resident magpies.

The majestic John Forrest National Park is just a fifteen minute walk away, and a short bus trip from Old York Road will take you to nearby cafes, supermarkets, restaurants, book shops, pubs and retail stores. The Swan Valley region, known for its humane produce and award-winning wineries, is only 15 kilometres away—an ideal location for a day out.

Perfect for writers of all kinds, the retreats are especially beneficial for poets, novelists, PhD students, and editors looking to create new work or fine-tune a manuscript—or anyone wanting an escape from the daily grind.

Daily, weekly or monthly accommodation is available all year round. Guests must have a literary or artistic purpose for their stay. Plenty of parking space is available with easy access to public transport.
