Deadline closing soon for KSP's 2021 fellowship program

Looking to prioritise your writing in 2021? A KSP fellowship may be for you. Deadline to apply: Sunday 13 September 2020

The KSP Writers’ Centre in the beautiful Perth hills region of Western Australia is proud to announce its 2021 fellowship program is now open for applications and will close next month on 13 September 2020.

A selection of aspiring, emerging and established writers will be gifted with a two-week subsidised residency to develop a manuscript at the inspirational KSP property, former home of Australian author, Katharine Susannah Prichard. Supplementary perks of the fellowship include a welcome gift, networking opportunities, promotion, CV credit, complimentary writing group sessions and access to a thriving literary community, library services, social events, and local heritage walking trails.

Most importantly, a residency like this provides a motivating workspace. ‘Without the time and thinking space the Fellowship provided, I doubt I would have been able to work through the challenge of restructuring the second draft; more likely I would have been forced to abandon the project. Thankfully, the Fellowship provided the freedom to dedicate myself to this task fully,' says Ashley Kalagian Blunt, 2017 KSP fellowship recipient and Varuna alumni, whose memoir How to Be Australian was published in 2020.

Progressing a manuscript, however, is not the only benefit of a writing residency. ‘Being a resident at KSP strongly creates the feeling of belonging to a writer’s community and also part of the literary heritage that Katharine herself created at Greenmount,' says Claire Potter, award-winning poet.

The Selection Panel, comprised of three members of KSP's Literary Advisory Committee, will be looking for good writing, compelling projects with developmental potential, and writers who demonstrate commitment to and a clear vision for their projects, with a focus on representing a diversity of genders and genres across the annual program of fellows.
